In present day society, partying has become synonymous with drinking. While drinking isn’t bad in and of itself, drinking at parties can be incredibly dangerous for some people. For those with a history of alcoholism or those who have had trouble with the law and alcohol in the past, parties can be a massive trigger. If you are looking for ways to avoid drinking altogether but still enjoy going to a party on the weekend, we have some great tips at Bernstein and Mello Law to help keep you and the people around you safe.

Dance

If you’re dancing, you can’t be drinking (without making a mess). Dancing is a great alcohol substitute because you can still be actively engaged with the other partygoers without making a big deal out of it. You still get to have fun and be wild and loud without any of the harmful effects of alcohol. People often drink in order to feel good. Dancing does the same thing. When you dance, your body releases endorphins and lowers levels of cortisol – a stress hormone. Dancing is the best kind of natural high.

Play Games

Regardless of what kind of party you are attending, you can always find something fun to do. Maybe the party space has a dart board or pool table, or board and card games. Playing games can be a beneficial alcohol substitute because it will easily take your mind off of the fact that you are not drinking. Try to bring or find a friend who will play these games with you and can be a partner.

Bring Your Own Drink and Enjoy the Food

If you’re worried about the drink choices at the party, try bringing your own beverage instead. This way you can avoid any awkward questions of why you’re not drinking and still stay hydrated with something tasty. And don’t forget to pair your chosen drink with whatever food is at the party. No one said anything about not eating! Eat and enjoy the party as you normally would because it can still be a fun evening of socializing, even without alcohol.

These are only three tips, but there are so many options to avoid drinking at a party and find constructive alcohol substitutes that will keep you happy and healthy. Do you need to talk to a lawyer about a suspected DWI or something related? Contact us to see how we can help today.
